Update

Thank you all for your prayers for my nephew!! I spoke to my sister and he is out of surgery. Everything went well no surprises, the Dr didn't think the nodes looked cancerous but pathology will tell us for sure. He will be in the hospital until Monday. Hopefully they will do a great job managing his pain. My sister could not say enough good things about the hospital or the doctor. They felt so much more at ease once they met with the surgeon yesterday and today they have been kept well informed throughout the surgery so that helped to ease their minds as well.
He won't be in his room until around 4pm so they can't see him until then. I will post more later.

My sister called to update me on Michael. He is settled in his room and they have given him a dose of pain meds in his spine. This should help control the pain for the first 24 hours. It is making his face itch but he is pretty out of it so he only notices when he wakes up periodically. She gave me some details on the surgery. He has an incision that goes just below the zyphoid process all the way to and around his belly button then beyond. To get at the nodes he had to move the intestines and navigate around the vena cava and the aorta, hence the delicate risky nature of the surgery. I have never been cut open so I can't imagine what's it's like. I know the first time they get him up is going to be hell for him. Hopefully they will keep the good pain meds coming.
